The Dayton/Montgomery County Convention & Visitors Bureau recognizes and appreciates the important impact the Good Samaritan Flyin' To the Hoop Basketball Invitational has on our community.
The annual basketball tournament which "brings the nation's best high school basketball players to the Midwest" has continued to grow in size and stature. Now in its ninth year, the tournament is recognized as a must-attend event for top high school basketball stars and teams. Typically the tournament draws approximately 30 teams and 600 players from 8-10 different states.
The invitational draws hundreds of college scouts and coaches. Since its inception the tournament has featured over 250 players that have gone on to play Division I College Basketball—including 15 McDonalds All Americans and a dozen NBA players.
In 2009, USA Today ranked this event as one of the Top Ten Prep Events in the nation.
The Good Samaritan Flyin' To the Hoop Invitational is held every Martin Luther King weekend at the Trent Arena in Kettering, Ohio. The Invitational brings people and dollars into the community in January, typically a slower event month in Montgomery County. Annually the three day event brings nearly 16,000 (approximately 5,000+ daily) attendees / participants to our community generating over $1.5million in economic impact.
The CVB endorses the efforts of the Good Samaritan Flyin' To the Hoop Invitational to garner local, regional and national sponsorships that will help ensure their continued growth and vibrancy for years to come.
Sincerely,
Jacquelyn Y. Powell
