Franklin, OH- Nov. 23, 2004 - Flyin To The Hoop National High School
Basketball Tournament, one of the nation's top prep high school events, has
announced the addition of two teams to their tournament field for the January 2005 tournament.
Champlain St. Lambert of St. Lambert, Quebec and Lakota East of West Chester, Ohio have accepted bids to participate in the event.
Flyin To The Hoop will still be played over the Martin Luther King Holiday weekend (January 15th-17th) at Vandalia-Butler High School's 4,000 seat Student Activity Center (SAC). The game times have been adjusted to accommodate two additional games. This year's tournament now includes a record 21 teams and 19 games.
The changes were brought upon by the cancellation of Slam Dunk To the Beach.
Slam Dunk To The Beach, one of the country's longest running prep events, was cancelled last week by tournament director Bobby Jacobs. Jacobs cited personal health issues for the cancellation. Unfortunately, this left several teams with open games on their schedules, including St. Lambert and Lakota East.
Tournament Director, Eric Horstman, extended an invitation to these two teams to help them make up the games that were lost by the Slam Dunk cancellation. Both teams have participated in Flyin to The Hoop before and are looking forward to returning to the event. Both teams are very talented and have players being heavily recruited by some of the top college programs
in the country.
Flyin To The Hoop is an in season prep basketball event held every Martin Luther King weekend in Dayton, OH. The event was founded in 2003 by Eric Horstman and has grown in popularity every year since. Over that time, the tournament has had 41 players move on to play Division I college basketball and one player move directly into the NBA. This year's field includes
over 30 projected Division I players.
